Aims and Objectives
This course explores the use of sports data and context to advance research in management, organization, and strategy topics. We will discuss the opportunities, options, and the risks/drawbacks/issues to keep in mind in undertaking such efforts. Students will be able to propose research questions or ideas that are more closely related to/anchored in areas of interest in management, organizations, and strategy research, and explore these questions using sports data.
Course Structure
The course is divided into ten sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. For each session there is a list of required readings. There will be a brief introduction of the major issues covered in each session, followed by a discussion of issues arising from the readings and opportunities for future research as based on these issues.
Course Requirements
Write a short report (2,000-3,000 words, 12pt font, excluding references) proposing a research question on one of the management topics covered in class (others are possible and welcome too, if you have interest in / knowledge of topic we will not have time to cover). As far as possible you should use data to support the analysis (what is also acceptable is to outline what data would be used for the analysis and to show that such data are available).
