Roman Gibel, Florian Überbacher and Andreas Georg Scherer got an article accepted in the Journal Research in the Sociology of Organization (RSO). In the article, they discuss how meta-organizations are increasingly positioned as key actors in addressing global challenges such as sustainability, yet their structural complexity fosters responsibility dilution. The study examines how and why meta-organizations facilitate such dilution through a qualitative case study of FIFA. They identify two response strategies – redirection and blurring – facilitated by meta-organizational complexity, itself constituted by multireferentiality and contested actorhood. The publication of the study is set for November 2026.
