Roman Gibel, Florian Überbacher and Andreas Georg Scherer published an article in the journal Business and Society. In the article, they have investigated how FIFA incrementally built back and hollowed out implemented Good Governance reforms after the 2015 scandals. The retrenchment of this reform is caused by an incalcitrant logic of clientelism that is entrenched in FIFA’s governance structure. The study is especially timely as the 2026 Football World Cup is about to start.
