Innovation Remains the Key to Success

In an interview with the Swiss trade journal Maschinenmarkt, Anja Schulze, Director of the Swiss Center for Automotive Research at the University of Zurich, highlights the importance of innovation in ensuring the success of the Swiss automotive supplier industry. While Switzerland no longer mass-produces its own vehicles, 578 companies operate as suppliers, collectively providing approximately 32,000 jobs and generating an annual revenue of around CHF 13 billion.

The industry faces significant challenges, including the transition to electromobility, economic struggles among European partners, and the rise of Chinese automakers. Swiss companies must focus on developing innovative solutions to remain competitive, particularly given the country’s high labor costs. Strategic positioning in relation to the Chinese market is seen as critical to future success.
